Obituary of Harry Durward Stamps, Jr.

Harry Durward Stamps, Jr. age, 93 of Dallas, GA, passed away Tuesday August 25, 2015. Funeral Service will be Saturday August 29th at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bethpage Lower Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday August 29th from 12:00 noon until time of service. Mr. Stamps was a devoted a loving husband to his wife, Mary, and a strong leader and father for his three daughters, Laura, Amy, and Jana. Harry was born in Bethpage on May 13, 1922, son of Harry Durward Stamps, Sr and Delton Sloan Stamps. He served in the United States Marines during WWII and again during the Korean conflict as an airplane mechanic and in communications. He met Mary Sue Leatherwood in 1959 in Valley Station, Kentucky, where they were wed on November 9, 1961. Harry retired from AT&T in 1987, after a 40 year career. He is survived by wife, Mary; daughters, Laura Anne Stamps Watson (Chris) of Dallas, GA, Amy Faye Swicord (Mark) of Murfreesboro, TN., and Jana Sue Taylor of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Wesley Walraven, C.J. Braasch, Akasha Watson, Evan Taylor, Ryan Taylor, Alex Taylor, and Rachel Swicord; and niece, Patricia Hodnick. Preceding him were his parents, sister, Annie Laura, and brother, Calvin.
