Obituary of Jack Leroy Smedley

Jack Leroy Smedley, age 77 of Gallatin, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024.  Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 149 West Main Street, Gallatin, TN  37066, with Reverend James Johnson officiating.  Visitation will be Saturday, March 23rd from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the church.  Interment will follow the service at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 149 West Main Street, Gallatin, TN  37066.

Mr. Smedley was born April 5, 1946 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late James Irwin Smedley and Bertha Mae Geary Smedley.  He is survived by wife of 56 years, Iva Marie Lykins Smedley of Gallatin: daughter, Karen Jarrett (Jeff) of Hendersonville; sons, Scott Smedley (Anne) of Richmond, VA and Christopher Smedley (Nicole) of Arlington, VA; brother, Jim Smedley (Barbara) of Follansbee, WV; sister, Jeanne Rodgers (John) of Colliers, WV; and grandchildren, Summer Smedley, Kyra Angle, Eva Smedley, Jeryn Jarrett, Jaclyn Jarrett, Joslyn Jarrett, Brian Smedley, and Kody Angle.  Jack graduated from Follansbee High School in 1964.  He continued his education, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University Institute of Technology in 1968 and a Master’s of Science (MS) and Health /Heath Care Administration Management from Duquesne University.  Mr. Smedley retired from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as CEO after 26 years of service.  Jack was a member of Gallatin First United Methodist Church.  He loved tennis, gardening (planting flowers and trees), traveling with his wife, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Special thanks to Dr. Allison Kucich and the nurses at Tristar Medical Group and to Highpoint Hospice and their nursing staff for the care and support over the last few months.  Online condolences may be submitted at familyheritagefh.com.
